DeadlineRolling (applications open year-round via Department of Tourism)

GTIP supports registered tourism enterprises investing in energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable resource practices. It's a 50% cost-sharing grant — the business funds half, the Department of Tourism funds half (up to the cap).

The programme is specifically for tourism businesses: accommodation, restaurants, conference facilities, game lodges, and similar. The qualifying investment must be in solar, energy efficiency, water recycling, or similar sustainable infrastructure — not general tourism development.

Kayzi Advisory NoteClean, well-defined programme with a clear qualifying scope. Best for established tourism businesses investing in sustainability infrastructure. Pre-approval required before the investment is made.

Contextual Fit · Business Substance · Use of Funds Logic

  • Registered tourism enterprise (accommodation, hospitality, game lodge, or similar)
  • Investment focused on energy efficiency, solar, or water management
  • Able to fund the 50% co-contribution
  • Business is SARS tax compliant
  • Willing to monitor and report on resource efficiency improvements
  • CIPC registered South African entity
  • Not a tourism sector business
  • Investment not focused on energy or water efficiency
  • Unable to co-fund the 50% business contribution
  • Applying for general tourism marketing or business development costs
  • SARS non-compliance
  • Application submitted after the qualifying investment has already been made
Common rejection reasonNot a tourism enterprise; no focus on resource efficiency; unable to co-fund; application after investment already made.

Tourism enterprise registration, CIPC registration, SARS tax clearance, detailed quote for the qualifying green investment, proof of ability to co-fund 50%, and a baseline measurement of current energy/water usage for comparison.

Apply through the Department of Tourism before making the qualifying investment — pre-approval is required. Retrospective applications are not accepted.
