FundingR1,000 – R125,000
TypeNon-repayable grant
FunderNational Youth Development Agency
DeadlineRolling (applications open year-round)

The NYDA Grant Programme exists to help young founders take a first real step — not to fund growth or scale. It's designed to assist youth-owned businesses with formalisation, equipment, and basic operating costs.

This is the most accessible government grant in South Africa for young entrepreneurs. The bar is lower than most programmes, but applications are still rejected at high volume for poor business logic and incomplete documentation.

Kayzi Advisory NoteUse this as the on-ramp into readiness, not a growth solution. High volume, high rejection. The business logic and documentation must be solid even at this level.

Founder Readiness · Business Substance · Use of Funds Logic

  • Founder is between 18–35 years old
  • Founder is a South African citizen
  • Founder is actively involved in running the business day-to-day
  • Business has a clear, viable idea or is already operating
  • Willing to formalise (CIPC registration, SARS, UIF)
  • Willing to participate in NYDA business development support
  • Founder is outside the 18–35 age range
  • No clear business idea or model
  • Expectation that NYDA will manage the business for you
  • No intention to formalise or register
  • Passive ownership — founder not involved day-to-day
Common rejection reasonPoor business logic and incomplete documentation are the most common reasons for rejection, even at this entry level.

CIPC registration (or willingness to register), SARS and UIF compliance, a basic business plan, proof of age and citizenship, and active founder involvement in the business.
