Woolworths' Supplier Development Programme exists to develop black-owned suppliers within the Woolworths value chain — particularly in food, agriculture, and private label products. The entry gate is clear: the business must be a current Woolworths supplier or have a credible, specific path to becoming one.

Woolworths has exceptionally high quality and food safety standards (GMP, HACCP compliance required). A business that cannot meet these standards will not progress regardless of other qualifications. The programme offers a mix of financial support and capability development to close the gap.

Kayzi Advisory NoteHigh-bar, high-credibility programme. Only surface for businesses genuinely in food, agriculture, or retail products with a realistic path to Woolworths standards. A forced application damages supplier relationships.

Contextual Fit · Business Substance · Use of Funds Logic

  • Existing Woolworths supplier or credible potential supplier
  • Business in food, agriculture, or retail product manufacturing
  • 51%+ black ownership (BBBEE)
  • Able to meet or credibly work toward Woolworths quality standards (GMP, HACCP, food safety)
  • Sufficient production capacity or a plan to reach it
  • South African registered entity
  • Not in food, agriculture, or retail product sectors
  • No existing or credible potential supplier relationship with Woolworths
  • Unable to meet food safety and quality standards
  • Production capacity insufficient for retail volumes with no plan to scale
  • Black ownership below 51%
  • Businesses seeking general business funding unrelated to Woolworths supply
Common rejection reasonNot food or agriculture sector; cannot meet Woolworths standards; no supplier relationship or credible pathway; insufficient production capacity.

Proof of 51%+ black ownership, BBBEE certificate, food safety compliance documentation (or a clear plan), production capacity evidence, existing supplier agreement or credible supplier development plan, and CIPC registration.
